Vision
There is a Japanese proverb that quips, “Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare“. While one is just sad and the other is dangerous and scary to watch, both ends of this statement exist all the same.
But why? Why would you do either? Why dream a dream not worth going for? Why tease your heart by hope in vain? I don’t know how to answer that but people do it all the time (myself included). Maybe it’s about not letting the thought of doing something be ruined by actually trying and failing. Whatever the reason, it’s not a good excuse. Think about it . . . is it?
The other strange thing is how easy we confuse activity with productivity. Now sure, life is not meant to be completely calculative and everything you do is not meant to be measure for progress, but when you do look at those things in life such as work, education, spiritual maturity, etc. most of us begin them with an outcome in mind and somehow get lost along the way. We keep working out of habit and not letting our end goal pull us through the process. We let ourselves get pushed in the back instead of pulled by the heart. Plainly put - that’s no fun.
Vision is important. To have something to keep your eyes on so they don’t drop and look around you at the tattered road you have to take to get you wherever you are going. If you can’t readily identify your dreams and visions right now, don’t worry. You’ll find them. But as a closing hint, if you haven’t found them yet in the places you visit and the routines you have, maybe its time to expose yourself to something or somewhere new.
